This site focuses on my research interests, from film (especially children’s films from DEFA) to history to languages to knowledge transmission/communication to vampires. I have written and presented on the transition of Nazi to communist schools in East Germany (The Antifascist Classroom ), on education, teacher training, and the connection between monsters, vampires and sexuality. Feel free to contact me (below). Please note that I will not respond to requests for general help on research if that can be found elsewhere easily. But I will respond to requests for lectures, or visits to local schools to talk about why German is such a cool language (my favorite, with a close tie for second-place with Italian and French), and why German, Austrian, and Swiss history are so worth studying. In fact, I love studying topics about German-speaking lands so much that I am now the Operations Director for the German Studies Association. Check out the annual conference!
